Nighon's second album "The Somme" is released!

Finnish symphonic industrial metallers Nighon releases the fastest, loudest and heaviest history lesson you have ever experienced, namely their second full length album “The Somme”.

Nighon has now released their second album “The Somme” through Inverse Records. Nighon was formed in 2008, in Pietarsaari, Finland. The sound is a blend of extreme metal and symphonic movie music, that appeals to a wide group of people, ranging from fans of Dimmu Borgir, Rammstein, all the way to Amaranthe. ”This is absolutely our most ambitious work thus far and a giant leap forward!”, says guitarist and composer Björn Johansson

Nighon released its first album 'Cor Oblivionis' in 2014 on Univocal Music, and their first music video 'Ex Tenebris Lux' the same year. The band has performed with bands like myGRAIN, Magenta Harvest, Finntroll, Kill The Kong and Arkentype. Nighon will perform at the legendary Finnish metal festival Nummirock this summer.

The album is a concept album with stories from World War I, World War II and the similarities between those and the crises we see today in our world. The album is supposed to be heard in it’s entirety non-stop. ”The album has been well received by critics all around the world and people seem to really like our sound…”, says lead guitarist Michael Mikander.

The brand new single and music video “The Greatest of Catastrophes” is a blend of the outbreak of World War I and the Ukraine crisis. The music video was filmed on the Gulf of Bothnia and at a secret undisclosed military facility by Kasper Dalkarl, David Viklund and Stephanie Blomqvist

The album was recorded at Soundspiral Audio by Juho Räihä (Before The Dawn, Wolfheart, Swallow The Sun) and Nighon's studio Regiment XIII. The production of the album began 2014 and was finished summer 2016. It is produced by Nighon and Mathias Lillmåns (Finntroll, Magenta Harvest). ”This album has the best guitar sound I've ever produced, and the album is a mastodon of a production!” says Mathias Lillmåns. The album was mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordström (Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Soilwork etc.) and Henrik Udd, at the legendary Studio Fredman in Gothenburg Sweden.

Nighon released a new video with a strong message in it!

Nighon released a second single "The Dirge" from their upcoming album "The Somme" which is released May 5th 2017 by Inverse Records.

"We have released a new video with a strong message. The song "The Dirge" raises the question: "Why do we have wars?”. They are horrible and the majority of mankind seems to despise it. The song was inspired by the annexation of Crimea, the Vietnam war and the Korean war. Björn: "The lyrics I wrote tells us about the consequences of letting our hate spin out of control, and when governments twist lies into truths to justify war!

Today we have recorded drums to 4 new songs to the new record!

We arrived in Kouvola yesterday after a nice 7h drive from Pietarsaari.

We're recording at Sound Spiral Audio studios with Juho Räihä as audio engineer. We have spent most of our time in the recording bunker but we have also got a glimpse of the city and it's surroundings... and beer of course!

Stay tuned for more updates as we go along!

CAPTAIN'S LOG 28.6-16.8.2015

Whoah! There's been quite a long gap now between the last report and this one! There are some reasons why that is so! We have been extremely busy with arrangements, filming and recording! The ...And Fire In The Sky Festival is drawing closer every day and the music expo Ostrobothnia Music Expo is lurking around the corner!

No idea of what's going on here.

No idea of what's going on here.

Nico Dundee.

Nico Dundee.

We had a nice gig at Jakobs Dagar, a townfestival held in our hometown. Nice weather and lots of new folks came out to see us perform!

Another successful Nighon Summercamp was held between the 27th and the 30th of July! Our prime goal was to record demo-lead guitars for our new album! We have filmed parts of the whole camp which will be released soon enough(not for the fainthearted).

We are also planning a new podcastepisode to be recorded in the following weeks with a nice and juicy topic with three guests! Our spiritual/meditative podcastepisode will soon be released, where Junker/Sunfeather/Mats Ödahl tells us about his adventure on the astral plains of meditation!

Demoing is proceeding as planned and will be intensified in September when things calm down a bit. The summer is always such a madhouse, every year.

This concludes my report. Stay tuned and take care.

We have also completed a new podcastepisode about drugwars, meditation, taking a crap, video games, martial arts, spirituality and corruption!

The design was from http://cadiesart.com/home.php, be sure to check it out!

Stay tuned, we're working our asses off here!

We have been quite busy these last two weeks so that's why I didn't write my report last sunday! Well we have continued with the demoing as in previous reports and confirmed some new live dates this fall.

Don Johnson making burgers!

We have also recorded a new podcast episode with Nylli Nylund, a local legend who have played in bands such as Journeymen and WDM! We sure had a great time when we visited him at his home outside of Pietarsaari! Give it a check, it's like the usual episodes; very informative and absolutely no profanities! *cough*.

We also had a Don Johnson burger party!

We are going to start demoing vocals the upcoming week so we are (as always) busy like hell. Enjoy the summer and have a cold one! Cheers!

The demoing is proceeding as planned, we have recorded some "special" vocals for some certain songs to add the extra spice to the ambience. Vocalrecordings overall will commence next week along with the last demosynthwritings.

Our third podcast episode with Mathias Lillmåns will be released next week! It will feature lots of interesting storys and some overall debauchery!

As the cherry on the top of this report I'll tell you of a great gig we saw on saturday at Black Sheep pub with Festerday! Festerday is Pietarsaari's oldest extreme metalband. Their last gig before yesterday was 23 years ago so it was quite a priviledge to see it. They released their new album along with the concert so give it a check, a must for anyone who likes some old school "dödis"!

The ignorant are blinded by fears, cheers!

CAPTAIN'S LOG 25.5-31.5 2015

This week has been quite a stressful one with demoing new songs and other recordings. Our friends from IAMSIN are recording their first EP in a studio in Nykarleby. I myself was on site to assist with the guitarrecordings and we got a really nice and brutal sounding wall of guitars!

On the Nighonfront we have completed some new demo-synths for the new songs and we have started writing lyrics for the new album (in matter of fact that's what I'm doing at the moment besides this report!). We are also working on a new lyric-video which will be exciting to release!

We have also released today our second episode of our podcast (Nighon Propagandacast) on itunes and youtube. Our guest was this time Jukki Finnholm, a musician and a technician with a lot of experience in ambient and metal music, go and check it out!

The preparations for this summer's activities are also well on-going and we will soon announce our plans (mohaha!).

That concludes my report, until next time! Take care!
